"To Share my knowledge & love of dance while encouraging young dancers to reach their personal best"
-Tanya Strandlund
About Tanya...
A love affair with this beautiful art form. That is how I would describe my relationship with ballet, contemporary and beyond. Studying all styles as a young dancer and specializing in classical ballet for my adult life... Choreography soon became a rewarding pass time for me, creating, challenging myself and others to create works of art and fulfilling my vision of how a particular piece should translate.
I continue to study classical ballet at depth, while studying and honing the art of teaching. I had invested myself in many years of teacher training, then upgrading courses and classes. With over 41 years of dance experience, 23 years of teacher studies and practical work and well over 30 years of teaching experience, I feel I have gained an insight to the art of dance that takes as many years to obtain. I have been adjudicating for 15 years now, adjudicating for a cross section of events ranging from small town festivals to city competition events from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Vancouver, British Colombia.
Speaking from the heart to the students as human beings is key. You will find I have a positive approach in my adjudicating style, it is meant to encourage the performers to search for, aspire to and become their personal best. I have high expectations in quality of dance at each level, but I am able to see and acknowledge when dancers are giving their best.
I personally have studied and taught ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, conditioning, musical theatre, hip hop & national dance over the years and I am currently the artistic director, exam coordinator at a dance school on the edge of the Canadian Rockies. I am the classical ballet pedagogue and exam coordinator.
In past I have owned my own dance School for 12 years . Currently , I also run an events business hosting a successful dance festival and I have developed a program for adjudicator certification and course . All of this experience is an asset to your Competition, as my compassion coupled with expertise, presents itself in my adjudications.
If you are looking for an adjudicator for your next event, and I seem like a good fit, please feel free to email me with your event dates and details. I am quick to respond with my availability either way.
